About Marci

Regal Tutors Owner Marci

Hi!  I’m the owner of Regal Tutors. I earned both my teaching credential and my master’s degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I spent three years as a traditional classroom teacher, and I have been tutoring for almost 20 years. During the summer when students don’t need as much tutoring, I teach swim lessons.

“Knowledgeable, friendly, and professional tutoring!  My daughter has used several tutors over the years, but never one as knowledgeable and helpful as Marci of Regal Tutors.  Marci quickly assessed the mathematical concepts with which my 11th-grader struggled, and was able to explain higher-mathematics functions in plain, comprehensible language.  Great, personalized and personable service!” – James S.

About Akonam

Akonam About Regal Tutors

Hello!  I have a PhD in Educational Leadership from USC and almost 10 years experience as a classroom math teacher for middle and high school students. Currently, I work as a math instructional coach at a local charter school. While working in educational leadership is rewarding, I really enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to work directly with students. In my free time, I train for marathons and bake for friends and family.

“I can’t say enough about Akonam. She was an amazing AP Calculus tutor for my daughter. Akonam was patient, understanding, firm and consistent. Her smile was contagious, and her love for math was inspirational. She made the work make sense. She brought props and activities that allowed for different modes of learning and helped keep it interesting. My daughter was fully engaged and very grateful to see Akonam each week.” – Simone

I am excited to apply my many years of teaching experience to help new students with difficult subjects. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, baking, and hiking with my husband and three children.

“Thank you for explaining things where my daughter can easily understand them. I appreciate the lengths you go through so that even she can comprehend complicated matters. You put your heart into all you did as a tutor. I am grateful for you being my daughter’s tutor and guide. Lastly, I appreciate you being so caring and building a connection with my child. -Emily N.”

About Phillip

Hello!  I have BA in Mathematics and Economics, an MA in Economics, and PhD in Political Science.  I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience in the U.S. and Japan at the middle school, high school, and university levels.  During this time, I have taught a variety of subjects, including math, history, government, economics, and statistics. I currently teach math and history at a private high school.  As a father of two young children (ages 9 and 5), I also enjoy teaching young children. My wife and I are currently teaching our children math, English, and Japanese. I find tutoring especially rewarding because I can give my full attention to the student in a one-on-one situation.

“Dr. Streich is one of my favorite teachers. I was afraid of math when I started high school but he made me feel comfortable in math class because he has a great way of explaining everything so I can understand
easily.” – Jacob
